How to Get More Energy In Your Everyday Life
Energy levels dictate so many other habits—how often we work out, how healthy we eat, how beneficial our sleep is for our bodies and minds. A lot of women come to me with questions about how to deal with their energy fluctuations, and while some factors are out of our control, there are a lot of things we can do to help our body out and get more energy in our day-to-day lives. From nutrition and supplements to exercise try these tips!1. Eat the Right Foods, the Right Way
As you’ve probably experienced, there are certain foods that give you more energy than others. More specifically, different foods give you different types of energy. For example, we all know that if you have too much sugar, you get a burst of energy that quickly leaves you feeling more exhausted than before. So what are the foods that give you long-lasting energy? It’s the foods that are rich in complex carbohydrates, protein, antioxidants, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. That covers a lot of foods, but here’s a quick list of some of my favorites:- Healthy proteins like salmon or chicken
- Healthy fats like nuts, avocados, and olive oil
- Whole grains
- Fruits like bananas, blueberries, strawberries, and mango
- Spinach
- Sweet potatoes
- Peppers and tomatoes
2. Move More
Movement and energy work together cyclically: When you’re tired, you don’t move, and then you get more tired. When you have energy, you move more, and then you get more energy. So if you’re in the non-moving cycle, all you have to do is break it with some movement! Here are some easy ways to add movement into your day:- Keep a cup or bottle of water at your desk, and make sure it’s always full. This will ensure that you’re getting up and walking to refill your water regularly (and it also keeps you hydrated!).
- Go for a brisk walk at lunchtime or any other time you have a short break. Even a five minute walk makes a big difference.
- Take the stairs EVERY chance you get.
- Make sure to stand up and stretch at least once per hour to get your blood flowing. This Mini Yoga Stretch workout is a great way to boost your energy!
3. Boost Your Energy Naturally

Your mental state can be half the battle when it comes to energy, and for better or worse, it also contributes to the energy cycle. If your mind is lethargic, it can influence your body, which can reinforce your mental state. So here’s what I do when I find myself in a bad mood:- I take a step back. I try to objectively view my mental state and figure out why I’m thinking negatively.
- Once I’ve identified the reason or pattern, I make a conscious effort to focus on the positive side of whatever situation I’m in.
- Then, I use my body to influence my mind. I force myself to smile, and believe it or not, it actually changes my state of mind! Try it! It’s so simple, and you can do it anytime, anywhere.
5. Energize With Your Breath
Finally, I want to talk about breathing. Getting enough oxygen into your cells is so important for your energy. Increasing your energy can be as simple as a quick breathing exercise. Here’s one that I like:- Right now, take a deep breath. Breathe in through your nose, and then slowly exhale through your nose.
- Repeat at least 3 more times.
- How do you feel? With each breath, you delivered energy-rich oxygen to every cell in your body.
- If you don’t feel relaxed or energized yet, try a few more deep breaths.
