Today, I’m looking back on an honor that is very dear to me. A few years ago, I received the Red Dress Award alongside other women helping fight the battle against heart disease.Did you know that heart disease is the number one cause of death amongst women? That’s a startling, one hundred percent true fact. When I first learned it, I wanted to do whatever I could to help.Half the battle is raising awareness, because once we’re aware of our risks, we can start changing our habits. And this is the good news! Preventing heart disease is in our control because so much of our risk is determined by our lifestyle. The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement helps create awareness and also advocates for more research into women’s heart health, because so many women don’t know their risks. For my part, I want to take the time today to focus on how we can prevent heart disease. Your heart is a muscle, so you can condition it just like you condition any other muscle in your body!Any cardiovascular exercise will give your heart a workout. This can be anything that gets your heart rate up—even a brisk walk!I want to challenge you today to add a little bit of cardio into every day. Try walking 10 minutes a day at a quick pace. Or if you’re part of LifeFit, join our LifeFit & Flexibility challenge! We’re turning cardio and stretching into a habit over the next couple weeks, so I encourage you to stay heart healthy and join us.No matter what stage of life you’re in, it’s never too late to start adding some heart-healthy habits into your life. Let’s Go Red for Women, raise awareness about heart disease, and protect ourselves and our loved ones by getting and staying active together. ALSO CHECK : Too busy to eat healthy? Not possible!
